The Galeej Gurus are a band of four guys, brought together on
this journey through life, all fluent in the same universal language - Music. The fresh sound of such a union has,
naturally, made many people sit up and take notice; and has resulted in widespread recognition and a string of awards from
across the country.
The Galeej Gurus have drawn
their inspiration from many sources, both collectively and individually, which has been the primary reason for the uniqueness
of their music. Even a new listener will be able to notice the telling influence of such greats as The Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Eric Clapton,
Deep Purple, Jon Bon Jovi,
and Van Halen in this band’s sound. They see themselves as a band that enjoys inculcating
the sounds that they were brought up on, all the while remaining open to the possibility of experimenting with new ideas.
“ Music is a conglomeration of ideas. The important
thing, is not to ape other bands, or musicians, including those you consider
to be your inspiration; but to go beyond, and find your personal sound, that allows for the most effective expression of your
soul”
-
Ananth Menon, Former Lead Guitarist
The band is dedicated and focused on perfecting their craft, and expanding their steadily-growing fan following. Their own compositions, their energy, their emotional live performances,
and their hunger to reach new audiences, are some of the things that truly set The Galeej Gurus apart from the rest of the
herd.
Brief History:
In the year 2001, the band Galeej gurus was begun with a modest lineup of three individuals. They
went on to experiment with several other musicians, only to find that their music was being compromised, and decided that
they would stick to their original lineup, come what may. Destiny, it seems, had other plans.
In 2004, an explosive keyboardist joined the ranks – Snehal Pinto, who had played with the popular band ‘Mazarine’,
and was looking to expand his already formidable talent and experience. Naveen
Thomas, the lead guitarist, has audiences riveted, with his unpredictable stage presence
and emotional fretwork. Bottoming out the groove, one of the driving forces behind the band`s sound, Matthew Harris is a funk
oriented, respected and experienced bassist; and his twin brother Nathan Harris, is the band`s main vocalist, as well
as the drummer, who has, and(the band is confident) will, continue to wow audiences with his juggling act between the skins
and his appealing voice.
Achievements:
Since the time of their inception as a college band,
the Gurus have won numerous prestigious competitions both in the college as well as the semi-professional categories. Some
of the most significant ones have been listed below:
